Two Yellow Butterflies

Updated: Apr 13, 2022

Today is my birthday. Everyone has said do something special today, just for you. As I pondered over the things I enjoy such as being on the ocean or shopping, maybe even going to gym. I did say maybe;) But I could only settle on one thing I really enjoy doing and that is being still, alone in the presence of Jesus. There is no greater place to be and He is always there just waiting for me to be still and listen.

I asked the Lord how did He want our time to be today. Did He want me to write, read, pray, just rest? In that moment I remembered an earlier request of a friend today: “Make sure you check your mailbox.” Out of the box I pulled many precious cards and a package. The package was from my daddy. Inside was a devotional book that contained favorite Bible verses for women. Well just the thought of the gift from my daddy brought joyful tears for unspoken reasons. Then the Lord led me to one of my favorite spots, my back porch. It was there holding the book that I listened to the water pour from my fountain. I glazed out in the trees, took a deep breath and was prompted to open the book to read.

First page,” Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10. At that moment I looked up and two yellow butterflies flying together embraced me for a visit. Two. I like to think of God’s blessings always coming in twos. Zechariah 9:12 promises this very day that He will repay two blessings for each of your troubles. I knew the butterflies represented a message God wanted to give me. It intrigued me enough to do some quick research on the meaning of yellow butterflies. They represent hope and guidance. Two things I needed today. In early Christianity they were a symbol of the soul. In Scotland and Ireland a yellow butterfly means the soul is at peace. To Native Americans they are a symbol of change, joy, color, and considered a miracle of transformation.

At any rate, Jesus met me with Peace. I was right where I was suppose to be at the right time to see the gift of the butterflies. They flew together, played together. Something so simple but ministered to me so much and left a smile. Jesus can use anything if we are willing. In taking time to be with God, to rest in God, it strengthens my relationship with Him. When I step out of my busy life I can remember how vast God is! Perhaps most important, when I am still I am refreshed spiritually, physically, mentally. I receive nourishment for my soul. Today as I was still before God, I heard His voice-His loving, caring, reassuring voice. What a precious birthday gift from Him today. Peace, rest ” For you formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works and that my soul knows very well. ” Psalm 139 13-14 Trust me the God that can do this knows your every need and will supply it.

So, if your reading this, slow down…Avoid being so busy with life that you forget to nourish your soul.

Love,

Jeannie
